On April 15th, 2021, the SparkLink Alliance Industry Alliance was successfully held in Shenzhen. The leaders from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, State Administration for Market Regulation, Shenzhen Municipality, and Guangdong Province, those from the SparkLink Alliance’s partners, guests from international organizations and enterprises, and the representatives from the 112 alliance members attended the summit.
Cui Gang, Director of Standard Innovation Management Division of State Administration for Market Regulation, attended the summit and delivered a speech. Mr. Cui affirmed the achievements of the alliance since it was founded 7 months ago. In order to achieve high-quality development and promote innovative development, Mr. Cui suggested that the alliance should make it a model of supporting industry chains with standardization, one with integrated development of standards, tests, and certifications, one with quality development at home and abroad, and one with open standard systems.
Xie Xinping, Deputy Mayor of Shenzhen, attended the summit and delivered a speech. According to him, Shenzhen attaches great importance to strategic emerging industries. It is expected that SparkLink Alliance can enhance the exchanges and cooperation of the upstream and downstream resources of the industry chains and establish an integrated supply chain ecosystem based on the industrial advantages of Shenzhen. Guided by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Guangdong Department of Industry and Information Technology, the city will create better conditions for the alliance and support its sustainable development.
Wang Zhiqin, Deputy Executive President of SparkLink Alliance and Deputy President of China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, presided over the summit.
Zhang Xiaogang, Council President of SparkLink Alliance and Former Chairman of ISO, introduced the key work of the alliance in 2021. According to Mr. Zhang, the alliance will carry out the work by focusing on standardization, chips and prototypes, testing instruments, and industry ecosystems in the year. The alliance will further aggregate industry efforts, unite upstream and downstream partners, and attract more international enterprises to make the alliance a professional industrial platform that is market-oriented and based on innovative technology and standards.
Wu Hequan, Director of Committee of Experts and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, introduced the industrial driving forces of the SparkLink Alliance. According to him, the new scenarios and applications of the fast-growing fields, such as smart cars, smart homes, smart devices, and intelligent manufacturing, have given rise to massive wireless short-range communication market spaces and driven such technology for low latency, high reliability, high security, multiple concurrency, precision synchronization, and low power consumption. Academician Wu said that, the alliance will definitely be a key part in establishing future intelligent connection and shape prosperous industry ecosystem with the joint efforts the all alliance members.
Based on the previous research achievements of the four industry promotion groups, Zhang Yonggang, Vice President of BAIC, Huang Ying, Vice President of Lenovo, Wan Lei, a Huawei Fellow, and Wei Chenguang, Vice President of China Mobile Research Institute, represented the smart automotive, smart home, smart device, and intelligent manufacturing industries respectively to release the top application scenarios of SparkLink technology together with Academician Wu Hequan. The SparkLink Alliance leads the standards establishment and R & D as per actual requirements. And the release of these top scenarios marks the first critical step of SparkLink technology commercialization.
Wei Ran, CTTL Director of CAICT, issued the SparkLink 1.0 air interface technology standard and performance evaluation report. The SparkLink 1.0 air interface technical standard, namely the Technical Requirements and Test Methods of Wireless Short-Range Communication Vehicle-Mounted Air Interfaces has been reviewed and submitted for approval in April 2021. Based on smart cars, the SparkLink 1.0 air interface technology standard can be applied to smart homes, smart devices, and intelligent manufacturing. The SparkLink 1.0 Air Interface Technology Performance Evaluation Report has made the quantitative evaluation of SparkLink 1.0 air interface performances, and the evaluated items include peak rate, time delay, reliability, synchronization precision, multi-user ability, anti-jamming capability, and security. Led by CAICT, the performance evaluation report was jointly prepared by Huawei, Lenovo, TCL, GAC, Unisoc, China Mobile, ZTE, AI-Link, DT Link Tester, and Goertek, and the opinions of all the alliance members were adopted. The performance evaluation results show that the SparkLink technology will lay a solid foundation for the widespread application of such technology in the fields including smart automotives, smart homes, smart devices, and intelligent manufacturing due to its performance advantages such as low latency, high reliability, high efficiency, high concurrency, and high security.

Based on its open minds, the SparkLink Alliance has been exchanging ideas with relevant standard organizations and industry alliances actively for win-win results. During the summit, the alliance held the ceremonies of signing memorandums of cooperation with China Communications Standards Association, Standardization of China Automotive Technology and Research Center, IoT Center of China Electronics Standardization Institute, China Industry Innovation Alliance for the Intelligent and Connected Vehicles, China UHD Video Industry Alliance, and IGRS Industry Technical Innovation Strategic Alliance. The alliance will establish regular exchange mechanisms with the standard organizations and industry alliances to establish and evolve the new-generation wireless short-range communication technology standards for joint application demonstrations and industrial promotions.

Sun Yuning, Secretary General of SparkLink Alliance, introduced the progress of the alliance’s key work. Based on its favorable mechanisms, the alliance has released four core specifications, namely the Constitution of SparkLink Alliance, Measures of SparkLink Alliance for Intellectual Property Management, Measures of SparkLink Alliance for Group Standards Management, and Measures of SparkLink Alliance for Technical Documents Management. The alliance has kept expanding by rapidly gathering industry partners. The number of its members has increased 112 from previous 80, and some international enterprises have joined the alliance as well. The seven groups have steadily promoted their work, launching the establishment of nine group standards.
Yang Lei, Director and GM of Northern Light Venture Capital, shared the investment opportunities resulting from the new wireless short-range communication technology. According to him, the technology is an inevitable result of the computing architecture reform. With 5G and short-range terminal applications, China can have the whole industry chain ecosystem of new wireless short-range technology, the integrated capacity of basic communication, and massive talents for system applications.
In the afternoon, CATARC, BAIC, China Mobile, Haier, Lenovo, Huawei, Rebo, AI-LINK, CESI, IGRS, Quectel, Unisoc, ICT of CAS, BlueX Micro, and Ceyear shared their thoughts on SparkLink industry progress and technology. The contents shared include SparkLink standards, chips, modules, testing instruments, solutions, and the deployments of SparkLink technology in the fields such as smart cars, smart homes, smart devices, and intelligent manufacturing.
